If you need a reliable pad for outdoor sleeping, you will want to check this selection of Nemo sleeping pads in a variety of designs, sizes, and insulation properties, so keep reading.

In my another text I have a selection of Nemo sleeping bags. But having a good bag is not enough for a comfortable outdoor sleeping, you need something to separate you from the ground.

This is not only about comfort. As you probably know, when compressed with your body, a sleeping bag will not insulate you. When you are in a sleeping bag, you may loose 40-50 times more warmth to the ground than to the surrounding air.

One way of dealing with this is to sleep off the ground, on a camping cot. In this case you need far less insulation. But if this is not an option, then you need a good sleeping pad as an insulation between you and the ground.

My selection of best Nemo sleeping pads

The sleeping pads in the list below are ordered by their insulation property which is usually expressed through the R-value, from lower to higher:

I did my best to include very different pads so you have them for the trail and also for car camping. You have both inflatable and self-inflating types here.

1. NEMO Flyer Sleeping Pad

The good thing with NEMO sleeping pads is that they build them in different sizes, so this pad is available in 3 sizes in total, R, RW, and LW. This is important for such pads built for the trail, to avoid carrying unnecessary weight. So you have the following options:

  • Weight:
    – Regular: 1 lb 7 oz (652 g)
    – Regular Wide: 1 lb 13 oz (822 g).
    – Long Wide: 1 lb 14 oz (850 g).
  • Dimensions:
    – Regular: 72 x 20 inches (183 x 51 cm).
    – Regular Wide: 72 x 25 inches (183 x 64 cm).
    – Long Wide: 76 x 25 inches (193 x 64 cm).

This is an advanced insulated 3-season self-inflating pad. It can be described both as ultralight and ultra-compact, see the packed sizes:

  • Packed size:
    – Regular: 10 x 6.5 inches (25 x 17 cm).
    – Regular Wide: 12 x 6.5 inches (30 x 17 cm).
    – Long Wide: 12 x 8 inches (30 x 20 cm).

The thickness is 2 inches (5 cm). The inner is an open-cell foam with air channels that coincide with the peaks in the top and bottom profile. So the pad has both air for insulation and foam for support. With such a design they have removed around 60% of the weight and bulk.

The R-value is 3.3. This should be good for any situation in a 3-season use. Note that they use the ASTM Standard (ASTM F3340-18) system, so this should be a reliable rating.

The bottom fabric is with silicone areas added to provide grip and to keep the pad in place. The valve is what they call Zero-profile, multi-functional and micro-adjustable for fine-tuning and fast inflation/deflation. You will want to know that it comes with Nemo’s lifetime warranty.

2. NEMO Quasar 3D Sleeping Pad

Here you have an inflatable sleeping pad, and they build it in three sizes, and in addition to this you have insulated and uninsulated options. All of them are very light and compact.

See some numbers to realize what you have:

  • Weight uninsulated pad:
    – Regular: 1 lb 7 oz (650 g).
    – RW: 1 lb 11 oz (760 g).
    – LW: 2 lb 1 oz (936 g).
  • Weight insulated pad:
    – Regular: 1 lb 12 oz (790 g).
    – RW: 2 lb 1 oz (936 g).
    – LW: 2 lb 4 oz (1020 g).
  • Packed size uninsulated pad (L x D):
    – R: 8 x 4 in (20 x 10 cm).
    – RW: 9 x 4 in (23 x 10 cm).
  • Packed size insulated pad (L x D):
    – R: 8 x 4.5 in (20 x 11.5 cm).
    – RW: 9 x 5 in (23 x 12.5 cm).
    – LW: 9 x 5.5 in (23 x 14 cm).
  • Dimensions:
    – R: 72 x 20 in (183 x 51 cm).
    – RW: 72 x 25 in (183 x 64 cm).
    – LW: 76 x 25 in (193 x 64 cm).
  • R-value insulated pad: 3.3.
  • R-value uninsulated pad: 1.8.
  • Thickness: 3.5 in (8.9 cm).

The pad is gently curved with baffles that create cradling and keeps you centered on the pad. Also, the top head side baffle is slightly higher, and this is to keep your pillow in place. They describe this design as a body-mapped 3D baffling, Note that it comes with a Vortex pump sack.

As for the materials, the fabric is a 30D polyester ripstop, made of 100% post-consumer recycled materials. It is bluesign certified. The insulated versions are with a synthetic PrimaLoft insulation. The use new ASTM F3340 standard. You have NEMO Lifetime warranty.

3. NEMO Roamer Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad

This NEMO Roamer Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad is very thick and incredibly comfortable. You have 4 inches (10.2 cm) of plush and pleasant foam underneath you. Its official temperature rating is -30 F (-34 C). In terms of the R-value, this should be around 7. So this is good enough for any conditions, no matter where you would use it.

They build it in two different sizes, so you have a long-wide (LW) and extra long-wide (XLW). The dimensions are 76 x 25 inches (193 x 64 cm) and 80 x 30 inches (203 x 76 cm), respectively. The weight of the two versions is 4 lb (1.8 kg) and 5 lb 4 oz (2.38 kg), and the packed size is impressive (L x D) 12 x 8.5 inches (30 x 22 cm) for LW, and it is 15 x 10.5 inches (38 x 26 cm) for the XLW pad.

Regarding the materials, the top and bottom polyester materials have different denier values, 50D and 75D, respectively. It is designed with completely vertical sides, you can attach two pads together, there are also toggles and loops for this purpose.

It comes with dual valves, and this is their Laylow multivalve system with pressure micro-adjustment. Note that you have Nemo’s lifetime warranty. A stuff sack is also included. This pad is also in my list of extra long sleeping pads for tall people.

Final thoughts

So this was my selection of the best Nemo sleeping pads, and you realize that you have very different designs. Each of them is available in various sizes, so you have plenty of options to choose from.

Nemo is one of the best known outdoor brands, their products are usually with a steep price, but each of these pads has its lifetime warranty. This has a price, and you know what you are buying.

I would not put forward any of them as Editor’s choice because they are so different and comparing them makes no much sense to me.
