Our review of extra-long camping cots for tall people

We ordered the camping cots by length from shortest to longest to make it easier to find the right one for you:

1. Browning Camping Titan Cot XP

  • Dimensions: 85″x 40″
  • Packed Size: 48″ x 9″ x 5″
  • Weight: 20.5 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 450 lbs

The name Titan is a very appropriate name for this camping cot; it measures 85 x 40 inches (216 x 102 cm); not only is it long, but it’s also very wide. Not only that, but the capacity is pretty tasty, coming in at 450 lb (204 kg), which is we included it in our list of extra heavy-duty camping cots for heavy people.

It’s a military-style cot with a solid frame, but you have a few centimeters less in its usable length unless you want to sleep on metal bars. Most of the cot is fully detachable, but a few pieces come pre-attached, making it easy to assemble.

Quick Setup

Pros:

  • Made with robust 600D polyester
  • Easy to pack away
  • Excellent side storage slots

Cons:

  • Not a great packed size
  • Bit heavy to carry long distances

The packed size is 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm) in its carry bag. The camping cot is pretty heavy at 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg), but it’s not the heavier cot on the list. The frame is powder-coated aluminum with steel connectors, and the fabric is standard 600D polyester to handle bad weather.

The storage elements on the side are a bonus; one is detachable so you can use it as a toiletry bag. Another bonus is an integrated sleeve in the head section, so here you can put some pieces of clothing and manage without a proper pillow.

2. Rio Gear Smart Cot XXL

  • Dimensions: 85″ x 39″
  • Packed Size: 42″ x 9.5″ x 7″
  • Weight: 35.7 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 600 lbs

This cot may look like a standard military-style outdoor bed, but this is not. The important difference is that there are no end bars. And this means you don’t have pressure spots even if you’re exceptionally tall. You only have to look at the dimensions to realize what you have; it measures in at 85 x 39 inches (216 x 99 cm).

It’s a pure folding cot, so everything comes pre-attached, you open it up, and it’s ready in seconds. It also folds nicely into the carry bag, which is included; once packed, it measures 42 x 9.5 x 7 inches (107 x 24 x 18 cm).

Best Storage

Pros:

  • Excellent length
  • Plenty of storage elements
  • It packs down quickly with little effort

Cons:

  • It’s almost too heavy
  • The material feels too loose

The frame is made of steel and stabilized with 4 locks, which you can see in the picture above. The capacity of this camping cot is also very impressive, allowing up to 600 lb (272 kg) to lie on it.

We love that it comes with a bonus side table and many storage elements that set it apart from the other cots here. The downside is that it weighs 35.7 lb (16.2 kg), so this is a heavy item.

Note: The feet come with plastic caps, but they are small, so take care if you use them in a floored tent. We have included this cot in our list of extra-wide camping cots.

3. TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Cot

  • Dimensions: 85″ x 40″
  • Packed Size: 42″ x 12″ x 7″
  • Weight: 26 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 600 lbs

We will start with the numbers here because this cot is seriously impressive. The enormous bed is 85 x 40 inches (216 x 101.6 cm), and its weight capacity is equally exceptional; it can support 600 pounds (272 kg). For such a huge size, the weight of 26 lb (11.8 kg) is expected, but that doesn’t make it any easier to carry.

Most Durable

Pros:

  • Patented S-Leg strengthens the cot
  • Evenly spreads the weight
  • Super easy to use

Cons:

  • Too heavy for backpacking
  • Flimsy rubber feet

The cot is in the military-type cots group, which is a collapsible cot. And the frame is built with a combination of steel and aluminum; it is obviously very strong and sturdy.

They added a pivoting arm which makes the setup extremely easy. When you add the second end bar, you do not have to pull it out, which usually requires a bit of force. With the pivoting arm, this is very easy, you press it down, and it will make a loop motion and lock in place.

4. AMENITIES DEPOT 6-Leg Foldable Camping Cot

  • Dimensions: 85.6″ x 39″
  • Packed Size: 39.4″ x 31.5″ x 11″
  • Weight: 22.7 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 260 lbs

This AMENITIES DEPOT 6-Leg Foldable Camping Cot is both extra long and extra wide (85.6 x 39 inches), which means the bed is excellent for the giants. But this camping cot really stands out because it’s very well-padded, providing comfort and insulation.

The design is folding, so there’s no need for assembly; you unfold it, and you’re done. When packed, the dimensions are not its best feature, but it becomes rather thin; the folded size is 39.4 x 31.5 x 11 inches (100 x 80 x 28 cm).

Another useful feature is that it uses telescopic legs, which is excellent when the campground is rarely flat. They can be extended in the range of 13 – 15.7 inches (23 – 40 cm).

Most Comfortable

Pros:

  • The padding is super comfy
  • Telescopic legs make it easy to level
  • Perfect for tall people

Cons:

  • Not the best weight capacity, but not terrible

It’s a very comfortable bed that you can use in emergencies when sudden guests arrive at your house. As for the capacity, it is a bit of a letdown; officially, this cot supports a weight of up to 260 lb (118 kg).

The weight is 22.7 lb (10.3 kg), making it slightly easier to carry than some other models. The frame is made of steel, and the padding inside is very comfortable and is covered with a pleasant fleece cover.

5. Eureka Camping Cot Extra Large

  • Dimensions: 86″ x 40″
  • Packed Size: 47″ x 7.5″ x 5″
  • Weight: 24 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lbs

Did you know that the Eureka brand (or Eureka! as they officially write) has been around since 1895? There are not many outdoor brands with such an incredible history. And this is why we had to include one of their outdoor items, so we chose one of the longest and largest cots on the market. The bed dimensions are 86 x 40 inches (218 x 102 cm).

If you are familiar with camping cots, you can tell from the picture that it’s a very typical military-style cot with X-shaped legs and a frame. It belongs to the collapsible cot family, meaning you only need to add two end bars; all other elements are pre-attached. So the packed size is not too bad; its carry bag with a shoulder strap measures 47 x 7.5 x 5 inches (120 x 19 x 13 cm).

Reasonably Priced

Pros:

  • One of the biggest on the market
  • It packs down well for its size
  • Very reasonably priced

Cons:

  • Again, too heavy

The capacity is quite typical for a camping cot weighing 300 lb (136 kg), and the weight is 24 lb 13 oz (11.3 kg). The fabric is 600D x 300D polyester with back-coating, making it very robust. There is also a bonus zippered pocket 18 x 8 inches (46 x 20 cm) for small items to have them at hand and off the floor.

6. Slumberjack Big Lux Cot

  • Dimensions: 86″ x 40″
  • Packed Size: Not stated
  • Weight: 35 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 500 lbs

You will see this cot sometimes named Slumberjack Big XL Cot, Slumberjack Big Cot, or as given in the title. It will always be the same item and every bit as large. The dimensions are (L x W x H) 86 x 40 x 20 inches (218 x 102 x 51 cm), and the capacity is also enormous; it supports up to 500 pounds (227 kg), so it’s a cot for very big users. It is also relatively high off the ground, and you can store a lot of stuff underneath it.

Best Height

Pros:

  • Great size
  • High off the floor
  • Reasonable price

Cons:

  • It’s too heavy for backpacking
  • It doesn’t state the pack size

Available from:

The cot could be described as military-style, due to the frame, and this means it is collapsible and requires a simple assembly. As usual, with this style of the cot, you only need to add the end bars; all the rest is ready and pre-attached. They have stabilized it with extra locking bars underneath the bed. The frame is steel and the fabric is a 600D x 300D polyester.

7. ALPS Mountaineering Escalade Cot

  • Dimensions: 90″ x 35″
  • Packed Size: 48″ x 9″ x 5″
  • Weight: 24 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 325 lbs

As we are writing this text, this Escalade Cot is the longest cot on the market, with dimensions 90 x 35 inches (229 x 89 cm). One of the best things about the camping cot is that it has no end bars. This means that its incredible length is the true useful length. Note: They also build it in two sizes, XL and L, so the numbers shown above are for the size XL.

Yet another great feature is it’s a pure folding cot, and this means there is no assembly, all the elements visible in the picture are pre-attached, so you simply open it in a couple of seconds. It packs nicely in its included carry bat, so you have a bit elongated tube that measures 48 x 9 x 5 inches (122 x 23 x 13 cm).

Largest Cot

Pros:

  • Largest on the market
  • It can hold a good amount of weight
  • Folding design, no assembly

Cons:

  • Very heavy
  • Poor foot consturction

For such a large size, the cot is understandably heavy; it weighs 24 lb (10.9 kg) and has a maximum capacity of 325 lb (147 kg). All metal parts are powder-coated aluminum. There are several support bars for stability, the legs at the two ends are angled outwards for extra stability, and they have also added locking bars that give extra support and stabilize the legs.

You will want to know that the cot is tall, you have 20 inches (51 cm) clearance and this is lots of space to store the gear. The feet are narrow so it is best to add something for floor protection.

How to choose your camp cot for tall people

Choosing a long cot isn’t easy, which is why many people go for the largest option, but that doesn’t always mean it’s the best option. All of the camping cots listed above are huge, so you shouldn’t have any problems with length. But there are other features to consider:

  • Width.
  • Capacity.
  • Ease of use.
  • Packed size.
  • Weight.

If you have wide shoulders, the width of your camping cot is important. The same goes for capacity, there are differences, but you can also consult our separate text with extra heavy duty camping cots for heavy people.

Regarding ease of use, the cots in the list belong to various types. In general, they are either collapsible (and this means they need a simple assembly) or folding that need no assembly, and you simply open them up.

The packed size also depends on the folding/collapsible differences. So collapsible cots usually pack better and remain long in one dimension only when packed. But there are also folding cots with the same feature, so check carefully.

The weight differences can be substantial, so you might want to check this. Though these are all camping cots for places with a car access, this is why the weight may be of secondary importance.
