Buying Guide for a 10 Person Tent

Here are some things to look for in a 10 person tent depending on your camping preference.

1. Number of Campers

While all these tents can fit up to 10 campers, some of these tents may not provide adequate comfort. For example, ten adults would only fit if they were in sleeping bags with light gear. In contrast, five kids and five adults will fit without being squished together.

Even with less than 10 people, some other factors to consider are walking space and gear room.

For example, for luxury camping or glamping, keep in mind that it may be a struggle to fit the gear of 10 luxury glampers.

The NTK Arizona GT is the largest tent reviewed, so we would recommend it or a tent of similar size if space is a concern.

While this is a 10-person tent review, another option is to look for a 12+ person tent if space is a concern.

2. Durability

While any tent you decide to buy should be durable, some questions can help you determine the level of durability you’re looking for. For example, if you’re looking for a tent to use for a couple of camping trips a year, then you may not need to invest in the most expensive tent.

However, durability should be a priority if you want a tent that will last you 20+ years. If this is the case, we recommend the NTK Arizona GT, Core 10 Person Lighted Instant Tent, and the Outdoor Products 10-person Instant Cabin Tent.

I would also recommend these highly-rated tents for durability if you’re looking for a tent that can endure harsher weather conditions.

3. Water-resistant or Waterproof

While any tent you purchase should have some level of water protection, it’s important to remember that water-resistant and waterproof are two different features.

Typically, water-resistant implies that the fabric is tightly woven, meaning it can endure some water, but only to a certain extent. In contrast, a waterproof tent means that it’s supposed to block any moisture from entering completely.

If you’re planning to camp strictly in warmer temperatures or the Summer, we recommend the Eureka Northern Breeze, the Core 10 Person Lighted Instant Tent, or the Coleman Cabin Tent. These tents provide water-resistant features, so you’ll be protected by any unexpected rain or light showers.

4. Extra Features

  • If you plan to bring an electrical cord, a tent with a built-in electrical hole is an important feature.
  • For airbed or cot sleeping, a tent with two access points will provide easy access.
  • Most 10-person tents have a peak height tall enough for people to stand. As a standard for large occupancy tents, avoid purchasing a tent less than six feet or 72-inches – unless standing isn’t an important feature.

5. Tent style

The top six tents reviewed in this article come in two main styles: cabin-style and dome-style.

The cabin style has near-vertical walls, while a dome-style tent has sloping walls.

Sloping walls can make the overall area feel smaller – even if it’s not. Tents with vertical walls can provide even more water resistance since the water will bead right off the tent.

Tent style is a personal preference, but any style with enough standing room is best.

6. Price

Quality 10-person tents can range anywhere from $150 to over $900. High quality, durability, and stability are the main features any tent buyer should be looking for. So, before searching for a 10-person tent, set a reasonable price based on the ranging costs and the necessary features you need.

Our Choice

Based on quality and price comparison, the top two 10-person tents are the NTK Arizona GT and the Coleman Cabin Tent. However, if we had to choose, the NTK Arizona GT is the best 10-person tent because it is entirely waterproof, substantial size, and easy to set up.

And, with the right stakes, it truly is the most durable and stable tent for the price.

Hopefully, with our review of the eight 10 person camping tents above, we’ve helped you confidently choose which tent to purchase. Or, if you didn’t find a tent you love, hopefully, our buying guide will help you make the right choice for your camping endeavors.
